Campaign

How's the weather inside you?

Sometimes sunny. Sometimes stormy. Always valid.

We want to encourage honest conversations to help save lives. Let’s learn to describe our emotional states in a simple, universal language – asking the powerful question: What’s the weather like inside you?

The storm we’re all facing

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 1 billion people worldwide were living with a Mental Disorder in 2019. That’s not a statistic, that’s your neighbour, your colleague, your friend. Maybe it’s you.

When COVID-19 hit, depression and anxiety surged by 25% in a single year. Every year, suicide claims more than 700 000 lives, making it one of the leading causes of death among young people aged 15–29. And in South Africa? 9 out of 10 people with mental illness can’t access the help they need.

The cost isn’t just emotional. Mental health conditions drain $1 trillion from the global economy annually in lost productivity. But here’s what really matters: the human cost is immeasurable.

A new way to talk about how you feel

“How’s the weather inside you?” is Cipla’s bold campaign to change the conversation around mental health, one metaphor at a time.

Think about it: We talk about the weather every single day. It’s easy. It’s universal. It’s safe. So why not use that same language to describe what’s happening inside?

  • Feeling sunny? That’s amazing.
  • A little cloudy? That’s OK too.
  • In the middle of a storm? You’re not alone.

Just like the weather, emotions shift. Seasons change. And it’s OK to feel whatever weather you’re experiencing right now.

This campaign isn’t just about awareness, it’s about permission. Permission to acknowledge your feelings. Permission to ask for help. Permission to simply be.

Weather glossary:

Sunny

Feeling positive, joyful, and clear-headed. You have good energy,
feel capable of handling the day, and are experiencing a general sense of
well-being and optimism.

Partly Cloudy

Experiencing a mix of emotions. You might be generally
okay but are dealing with mild stress, uncertainty, or a few lingering
worries. It's a reminder to be gentle with yourself as things shift.

Cloudy

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, unmotivated, or low on energy. You
might be experiencing mild anxiety or a heavy mood where it's hard to see
the bright side right now.

Stormy

Going through intense emotional turmoil, severe anxiety, deep
depression, or feeling entirely overwhelmed. You might feel out of control
or heavily burdened. When it's stormy, it's a critical time to seek shelter,
ask for help, and lean on your support system.

Rainy

Experiencing feelings of sadness, grief, or emotional exhaustion. It
is a period of feeling down where tears might flow, but just like rain,
expressing these feelings is a necessary and natural emotional release.
